Norway exempts more services from co-payments

04 February 2025 | Country Update

In Norway, most publicly funded health services require cost sharing up to a certain level. These fees apply to services such as consultations, treatments, follow-up visits and imaging procedures, including nuclear medicine examinations. The level of co-payment is subject to annual adjustment. Starting 1 January 2025, the annual ceiling for user fees was raised to NOK 3,278 (approximately EUR 280). Moreover, exemptions from co-payment were expanded to include more groups and services. Under this change, outpatient psychiatric care for young adults up to the age 26, along with outpatient addiction treatment provided by the Psychiatric Youth Team (Psykiatrisk ungdomsteam, PUT) for patients under 30 will not require additional charges. Generally, children and adolescents under age of 16 (or 18 if they receive psychotherapeutic treatment) and pensioners with minimum income are exempt from any user fees.
